Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and currently residing in Salt Lake City, Utah, Lyrique King has a unique sound and style that proves his stage name to be 100 percent accurate. He is the king of lyrics, and can almost always know what the final project should sound like as soon as he hears first hears the beat. He takes the things he has struggled through in life and writes about them – sharing his journey from troubled youth to incarcerated adult to progressing himself and putting all his focus on his craft. Turning his focus from the streets into the beats that he’s become known for, his music is exciting and makes the listener feel like they’re actually experiencing what he’s rapping about. And of course it makes people want to come back for more.
“I think I set myself apart from a lot of other people in the game because I talk about real-life shit,” he said. “I talk about the things I’ve been through and continue to go through. I don’t sugar coat nothing. I don’t talk about things I haven’t been through. I have a story to tell, and I want to do that. If I can have people help me do that, that’s what I’ll do. I can spin. I can make beats. I sing. I rap. I write. I make hooks. I make songs for other singers – male and female. I produce. I play drums and piano. And I’ve got like 100 different styles. I don’t like to be put in a box. I come in different, not like anyone else, and I’m not a one-trick pony. I’m not just trying to be one way. I get on a beat and I murder it any way I want to murder it. I make music that makes people think and keeps them on their toes.”
